Underlying threats behind these recessions..

Waves of the economic recession affecting globally. Business community widely experiencing closures, abrupt surge in revenues, relentless cut down of staffing, increasing level of staff turn-over from prominent corporations and the sight of banks and financial institutions closing down in some Asian countries had been on the rise. While some minds in the business sector have chosen to cut down the workforce as an immediate solution, security professionals collectively have foreseen impacts unto the immediate security of their respective properties. It is not for the glaring cut down of staff itself, but the thought of losing their jobs is where a potential threat emerges internally.

A disgruntled staff for one may willfully delete old but crucial files from her drive which may be worth millions in the later end. While this act primarily stems from fear of losing their jobs, low level staff may resort into petty thefts, pilferage, damage to property and random acts of policy violations. "Once a trustworthy insider, now becomes a destructive intruder".

These acts are common factors that may elevate to serious forms of sabotage such as willful destruction of company resources, work slowdown, breaches on the information protection system and other activities that may hamper continuity. Reduction of operating figures may seem to justify an appropriate means in addressing this crisis, but the intent to decrease staffing should be reassessed against potential security issues which often than not lead to senseless costs while mitigating breaches, legal indemnity, liability issues, systems recovery and restoration.
